Rocky, the little Llaso Apso, is back in Bermuda…. He had come to us after suffering an FCE on his cervical spine and needed rehabilitation.

Here’s an update: His owner is keeping him on a strict diet including salmon and chicken along with CoQ10 and other vitamins to continue the healing. Plus exercise. He is improving, but it will take some time.

The pics are him at the hotel in Boston, then on the flight to Bermuda.

Keep improving, Rocky!

Check out this month’s article in Dog Sport Magazine, which features FitPaws Canine Conditioning Equipment. I am such a fan of this workout gear for dogs – 95% of the dogs that come into Wizard of Paws use this core strengthening equipment. I can’t stress enough how helpful it is for rehabilitation. It is also incredibly powerful for a healthy dog: core work is vital to to extend life and quality of life.

It’s a really interesting story, how the exercise balls, Fitballs, came to be, both for people and for dogs!

And it’s a cool article, complete with quotes from me! (Fun to see your own words in a magazine!)

“I first starting using exercise balls about fifteen
years ago with my dog clients,” says Dr. Saunders.
“It started with conditioning clients – to work on
their overall core strength and tone. And then progressed
to neurological clients – dogs that had had
back surgery or we were trying to prevent it. It
then expanded to just about every canine condition
from the veterinary component to the conditioning
component. Currently, approximately 95%
of the clients coming in to the clinic use the ball or
related components as part of their regular program
and their homework.

Core work is paramount to the overall condition
of a person and also in the dogs. I knew it
would work based on why it was needed and I am
always of the thought process that dogs will do
what we ask them to do if approached in the correct
manner. Dogs love their work on the exercise
equipment – they are proud of themselves when
they accomplish something. “ Dr. Deb Saunders

Rocky is going home!

Rocky is on his way back home to Bermuda! His Dad came to pick him up today! He is now running, playing and loving life. A wonderful progression!

You may remember my posts from the end of January, when this little Llaso Apso came to us all the way from Bermuda. He had suffered an FCE on his cervical spine and needed rehabilitation. See our earlier blog on Rocky:

He had laser therapy every day, underwater treadmill twice a day, and ball work. Rocky went from taking a few steps to come to us, to never sitting still at the clinic! He sauntered happily around all day, greeting people and dogs, and always with his fluffy little upright tail wagging! Just like a Llaso Apso tail should be!

We all loved having little Rocky here. Such a feisty, fun little guy!
